We the People

Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”

We at Homeschool Legacy sincerely believe that this presidential election is likely the most critical in our nation’s history, and it is one we dare not take lightly. Right now, you may be weary of politics, but press on, for if there were ever a time for Christians and patriots to rise up as one voice and elect a man reminiscent of our Founders’ integrity, character, and virtue it is now.

Much of how we the people got here is due in large part to the disintegration of our nation’s spiritual health. John Adams said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” For that, we are in dire need of revival. But, the hope is that God’s word assures us that, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14) What a loving and merciful God we serve!

In Exodus 18:20, God instructed Moses to “Teach [the people] the decrees and laws, and show them the way to live and the duties they are to perform.” For Christians, that law is first and foremost the Word of God. For we the American people it is also the United States Constitution. And, yet, only one third of all American adults have read it.

God also provides us with clear direction as to the kinds of men we should choose to lead us when He instructs us to “…select capable men…men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain – and appoint them as officials…” (Exodus 18: 21)

Aside from our our spiritual malnutrition, we the people arrived at this critical juncture because we have allowed the federal government to exert powers over the States and the people which the Founding Fathers never intended it to have. It’s broad reach has gone far beyond its narrow constitutional boundaries. But, without a firm foundation and knowledge of the United States Constitution how are we the people to know what those boundaries even are?

Please, let us not us not as Ronald Reagan warned,”spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.” Let us, instead, intentionally devote our families to praying for our nation and learning our United States Constitution.  For, it is a return to the biblical values of our Founding Fathers that will insure America continues to stand. And, it is a constitutionally literate society which was meant to act as the fourth and final check on our nation’s government.
